Description

DWOCC1990 recodes the variable DWOCC the occupation code of the respondent's lost job into the harmonized 1990 Census Bureau occupation classification system. These codes are also comparable to the variable OCC1990.

This variable is part of the Displaced Workers Supplement.

Comparability

This variable is completely comparable over all available years.

Universe

  • 1984-1992: Civilians age 20 or older who lost or left their job in the last five years.
  • 1994+: Civilians age 20 or older who lost or left their job in the last three years because the plant closed down, their shift or position was eliminated, or there was insufficient work.
