This variable is part of the Displaced Workers Supplement.

Comparability

This variable is completely comparable over all years before 2012. Before 2012, all values were possible. In 2012 a topcode was introduced. All hours 45 and above are coded 45. In 2014, the data show an apparent topcode of 44 instead of 45, and in 2016 the topcode is again 45.

Universe

  • Currently employed civilians age 20 or older who lost or left their job in the last three years because the plant closed down, their shift or position was eliminated, or there was insufficient work, and reported earning an hourly wage.
