Description

DWEXBEN reports whether the respondent exhausted unemployment benefits after he/she lost or left a job in the past several years. The variable DWBEN indicates whether or not the respondent received unemployment benefits.

This variable is part of the Displaced Workers Supplement.

Comparability

From 1984-1992, respondents who lost or left a job during the past five years are included in the supplement; from 1994 on, those who lost or left a job during the past three years are included.

Universe

  • 1984,1988-1992: Civilians age 20+ who lost or left a job in the last 5 years and also collected unemployment benefits.
  • 1994+: Civilians age 20+ who lost or left a job in the last 3 years and also collected unemployment benefits.
