Description

DWBEN identifies individuals who received unemployment benefits after losing or leaving his/her job within the past several years.

This variable is part of the Displaced Workers Supplement.

Comparability

From 1984-1992, respondents who lost or left a job during the past five years are included in the supplement; from 1994 on, those who lost or left a job during the past three years are included.

Universe

  • 1984-1992: Civilians age 20 or older who lost or left their job in the last five years, were not self-employed, and provided a response for tenure in the lost/left job.
  • 1994+: Civilians age 20 or older who lost or left their job in the last three years, were not self-employed, and provided a response for tenure in the lost/left job.
