Description
DPOUTLY indicates the respondent's own policy for direct-purchase private health insurance provided coverage for someone outside the household last year. The interviewer asked whether, at any time during the previous calendar year, anyone in the household was covered by such direct-purchase private health insurance, and distinguished between policyholders and dependents covered by the plan through follow-up questions. One such question, the basis for DPOUTLY, inquired whether the respondent's privately-purchased policy covered anyone outside the household.
Persons who were policyholders for such insurance are identified in the DPOWNLY variable. DPDEPLY identifies household members covered as dependents by the privately-purchased insurance policy of someone in the household. Up to two household members who were policyholders for privately-purchased health insurance are identified in the DPWHO1 and DPWHO2 variables. DPTYPLY indicates whether the policyholder's privately-purchased health insurance covered the respondent only or also covered family members.
