Description

CWRETNOPLAN indicates the reason the eligible respondent was not contributing to a pension or retirement plan (CWRETEMPANY).

Users should note that the codebook stated and empirical universes do not match up. Codebooks indicate that self-employed persons without retirement plans should also be in universe, but this is not reflected in the data. The empirical universe is as appears in the universe section.

This variable is part of the Contingent Work Supplement.

Comparability

In each sample there are a small number of cases that are classed as "in universe" despite not meeting universe requirements. The number of cases in each sample is as follows:
1995: 44
1997: 37
1999: 31
2001: 23
2005: 33

Universe

  • 1995-1999: Civilians age 16+ who were employed, but not self-employed, AND worked for an employer who offered a pension plan, but are not included in that plan
  • 2001-2005: Civilians in month-in-sample 1-3 or 5-7 age 16+ who were employed, but not self-employed, AND worked for an employer who offered a pension plan, but are not included in that plan
  • 2017: Civilians age 16+ who were employed AND worked for an employer who offered a pension plan, but are not included in that plan
