Description

CWREASLEFT indicates why respondents who are working in a job that is not the same job they had last week, left their last job. Only respondents who were unable to keep their jobs independent of external circumstances (CWCONTOLD) or did not leave their temporary job for work length related reasons (CWREASUNTL, CWREASWRKR, CWREASTIME, CWREASYEAR).

This variable is part of the Contingent Work Supplement.

Comparability

This variable is comparable across years.

Universe

  • 1995-1999: Civilians age 16+ who were employed, but not self-employed, and changed employers in the past week and either were unable to keep their jobs indefinitely independent of external circumstances and job performance, or had a temporary job but did not leave it because of work related events.
  • 2001-2005: Civilians in month-in-sample 1-3 or 5-7 age 16+ who were employed, but not self-employed, and changed employers in the past week and either were unable to keep their jobs indefinitely independent of external circumstances and job performance, or had a temporary job but did not leave it because of work related events.
  • 2017: Civilians age 16+ who were employed, but not self-employed, and changed employers in the past week and either were unable to keep their jobs indefinitely independent of external circumstances and job performance, or had a temporary job but did not leave it because of work related events.
