Codes

This variable is not available for any of the currently selected samples.

Description

CWDEFBRD indicates whether the individual was a contingent worker based on a broad definition. This definition includes people who do not expect their jobs to last. It includes all wage and salary workers who do not expect their employment to last, except for those who, for personal reasons, expect to leave jobs that they would otherwise be able to keep. The self-employed and independent contractors who have been in their arrangement for 1 year or less and who expect the arrangement to last 1 year or less are also included.

This variable is one of three that defines contingent workers. Contingent workers hold jobs that are expected to last only a limited period of time. The three contingent work definitions available in this supplement include CWDEFNARR, CWDEFMED, and CWDEFBRD.

This variable is part of the Contingent Work Supplement.
