- UnHarmonized Variables
This is a 4-digit numeric variable.
CSYEAR gives the first year a person made a legal or informal agreement regarding child support. This variable is found on the parent record.
Users should note that in the 2010 sample, there are two observations that have the value "1919". These values came from the original data, but appear to be outliers and/or and errors.
Blank values for this variable represent individuals who were not interviewed in April of the sample year.
This variable is part of the Child Support Supplement.
In 1992, responses included the first year a child support arrangement was agreed to OR awarded. For 1994-onward, CSYEAR includes the first year an arrangement was agreed to and CSYEARPAY gives the year support was awarded.
In the 1992 sample there are 3,444 respondents who are NIU for all Child Support Supplement variables despite meeting known supplement universe requirements.
- 1992: Children in month-in-samples 1-3 and 5-7 who do not live with both of their parents and one parent ever had a child support agreement
- 1994+: Children who do not live with both of their parents and one parent ever had a child support agreement
