Description

CSELIG indicates whether the respondent was eligible to answer questions from the Child Support Supplement. CSELIG helps differentiate individuals who were out of universe for the supplement and those who were out of universe for a particular question in the Child Support Supplement. Those who are ineligible according to CSELIG include those who fall outside universe for the Child Support Supplement (see the Child Support Sample Note), and those who were interviewed for the ASEC, but not interviewed in April.

Users should note that responses will not necessarily be on the record of the individual coded as eligible. A number of variable responses are found on the child's record, yet children are coded as not eligible to respond to the Child Support supplement questions by the Census Bureau.

Comparability

Except for 1992, this variable is completely comparable across all available years. In 1992, eligibility requirements were less strict, so a significantly large number of respondents received a value of 1 for this variable.
