Description

COLLEG75 indicates whether respondents reported their main activity for ASEC, 1975 as "attending college." Other possible responses to the question about the individual's main activity in ASEC, 1975 were "working at a job or business" (WORK0375), "on active duty in the Armed Forces" (MILIT75), or "something else."

Comparability

The question wording was identical for 1976-1980, but due to the use of a fixed reference point (ASEC, 1975 rather than, for example, "one year ago"), the recall period changes over time. In 1976, respondents reported their college attendance one year ago; in 1977, their college attendance two years ago; in 1978, their college attendance three years ago; in 1979, their college attendance four years ago; and in 1980, their college attendance five years ago.

A parallel line of questioning, using ASEC, 1980 as the reference point, was included in the 1981 ASEC CPS (see COLLEG80). COLLEG80 is comparable to COLLEG75 for 1976 only, with both identifying persons whose main activity one year ago was attending college.
