ASECFWT is a 12-digit numeric variable with two implied digits. That is, 123456789012 should be interpreted as 1234567890.12. The IPUMS command files automatically make the necessary adjustment, so no further adjustment is needed.
Description
ASECFWT should be used for family-level analyses and is derived from the reference person's second-stage weight value. If the reference person is a married man, the second-stage weight of the reference person is further adjusted to ensure that the number of married men and women are equal.
When analyzing person-level ASEC data, researchers should use the person weight ASECWT. ASECWTH is available for household-level analyses. For analyses including the variables EARNWEEK, HOURWAGE, PAIDHOUR, and UNION, researchers should use the EARNWT variable.
It is possible for this variable to have a negative value.
