VTSUPPWT is a 10-digit numeric variable. In the original data there are four implied decimals. The IPUMS command files automatically make the necessary adjustment, so no further adjustment is needed.

Description

VTSUPPWT is the weight specific to the Veterans Supplement, and should be used for all analyses using variables from this supplement.

Researchers should use WTVET rather than VTSUPPWT when they wish to conduct person-level analyses of individual-level CPS data for veterans when not using variables from the Veterans Supplement. Veterans can be identified in the monthly samples using VETSTAT.

Comparability

In 1985, only males were eligible for the Veterans Supplement.

From 1987 onward, the Veterans Supplement weight is identical to the Veterans Weight (WTVET) from the basic monthly survey.

This variable is otherwise comparable over all available years.
