Description
MHAGESEP1 indicates the respondent's age in months at separation from first spouse.
Comparability
Men are included in MHAGESEP1 in the 1980 sample only.
In 1995, the universe becomes even more restricted. In this sample, a woman needed to be married two or more times and their first marriage must have ended in divorce to be in-universe for MHAGESEP1.
In 1980 and 1990, the MHAGESEP1 variable includes women who have been married only once. These women also have values for "age at last separation (MHAGESEPL); in these cases, values for MHAGESEP1 and MHAGESEPL are the same. In 1995, women who have been married only once are in-universe only for MHAGESEPL.
