WSENDTIME is a 4-digit numeric variable that indicates a time of day to the minute (HHMM).
9994 = Varies
9996 = Refused
9997 = Don't Know
9998 = No Response
9999 = N.I.U. (Not in Universe).
Description
WSENDTIME reports the time of day at which the respondent's primary job usually ended last week. Times are recorded using a 12 hour basis in the following format: HHMM. WSENDTIME is used in conjunction with WSENDAMPM to determine if the time recorded in WSENDTIME refers to the AM or PM time of day.
The "primary job" is defined as the job at which the respondent worked the most hours.
This variable is part of the Work Schedules Supplement.
Comparability
In the 1976 through 1991 surveys, respondents could choose only an hour interval (1:00, 2:00, 3:00, etc.). In subsequent surveys, the respondent could specify a time to the minute.
Beginning in the 1997 survey, response categories indicating "Varies", "Refused", and "Don't Know" were added.
From 1976-1978 there are small numbers of respondents who have valid WSENDTIME responses despite not meeting known universe criteria.
In 1985, 6,214 individuals were in-universe for the Work Schedules Supplement but did not answer the supplement questions. These individuals have been coded as "No Response" if they met WSENDTIME universe criteria.
This variable is otherwise comparable across available samples.
