JTSAME gives whether the respondent was doing the same type of work one year ago.

This variable is part of the Job Tenure Supplement.

Comparability

After 1991, the universe includes employed individuals aged 15 and older; prior to 1991, employed individuals aged 14 and older are included.

Universe

  • Jan 1987 and Jan 1983: Civilians age 14 or older employed during the reference week and employed one year ago.
  • 1991: Civilians age 15 or older employed during the reference week and employed one year ago.
  • 1996+: Civilians age 15 or older employed during the reference week, and either worked for the current employer for over a year or was working one year ago and had an entry for the Job Tenure supplement occupation variable.
