This is a 7-digit numeric variable.
Description
HIPVAL reports the total dollar amount a Census family, including related subfamilies, spent on health insurance premiums in the last 12 months. There are no implied decimals. (For more on Census families see FTYPE and FAMREL; this is a different definition from IPUMS-derived families as in FAMUNIT).
Inflation-adjusted versions created with the Adjust Monetary Values tool will use the default reference year for the sample (i.e., survey year [YEAR] for basic monthly and previous year [YEAR-1] for ASEC).
