This is a 7-digit numeric variable.
Description
MOOP reports the total dollar amount a Census family, including related subfamilies, spent on medical expenditures out of pocket in the last 12 months. There are no implied decimals. (For more on Census families see FTYPE and FAMREL; this is a different definition from IPUMS-derived families as in FAMUNIT).
Inflation-adjusted versions created with the Adjust Monetary Values tool will use the default reference year for the sample (i.e., survey year [YEAR] for basic monthly and previous year [YEAR-1] for ASEC).
Universe
- 2011-2018 ASEC: Families that paid out of pocket medical costs
- 2019-2024 ASEC: All persons.
