Description

WKSTAT is a recode from the Census Bureau that states the part-time or full-time employment status for the respondent, and reasons. It is derived from a number of labor force questions asked in the monthly questionnaire.

Comparability

This variable measures the same concept (part-time vs full-time employment, and reasons) over time, but the specific codes change. See the "Codes" section of the variable description to see what codes are available for each sample. Earlier years have less detail than later years.

Universe

  • 1976-1993: All persons.
  • 1994+: All civilian adults.
