Description
FSSPDML indicates how much, relative to current spending, a household would need to spend to meet food needs.
This variable is part of the Food Security Supplement.
Comparability
This variable is mostly comparable across all years. In 2002, the question was moved from the very end of the supplement questionnaire (after the food security questions) to immediately after the food expenditure questions towards the beginning of the questionnaire. The question wording, however, did not change. From 2010, group quarters households are not asked this question.
Universe
- 2000-2009: All households.
- Apr 2001: All households that are in months-in-sample 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8.
- 2010+: All households, excluding group quarters.
