Description

USFTPTLW reports whether persons who worked part-time (less than 35 hours) during the preceding week usually worked full-time (35 hours or more).

Comparability

Apart from universe differences in the lower age limit of respondents, this variable is comparable across years. WHYPTLWK specifies the reasons respondents gave for working part-time during the preceding week.

Universe

  • 1962: Persons age 14+ who worked less than 35 hours last week. (Pre-1968 samples do not include persons under age 14).
  • 1963-1967: Civilians age 14+ who worked less than 35 hours last week. (Pre-1968 samples do not include persons under age 14).
  • 1968-1987: Civilians age 14+ who worked less than 35 hours last week.
  • 1988-2025: Civilians age 15+ who worked less than 35 hours last week.
