Principal/central city code - 2016. Unicon Corporation made the following notes about this variable: With the introduction of new geographic codes in May 2004, the term central city has been replaced by principal city. Whenever possible this code identifies specific central cities in a CBSA or MSA/PMSA that have multiple central cities. In order to uniquely identify a specific city, this code must be used in combination with the variables cbsa (05+) or msafp (86-04).
