Topcode flag income: total earnings - 1989-2024
Unicon Corporation made the following notes about this variable:
The various income fields have been topcoded to prevent disclosure. In 1989, blanks were represented with unreadable characters. The data in this field were mostly unreadable characters, which were converted to missing. Only 611 out of 144687 person records had data which could be translated. All 611 records had a value of 1. The missings should be set to 0. In some years, the top code flags seem to be inconsistent with the actual data. The top code flag for 2000 is completely wrong. See Appendix H.4 for details.
