- UnHarmonized Variables
UCSUPPWT is a 12-digit numeric variable with four implied decimals. The IPUMS command files automatically make the necessary adjustments, so no further adjustment is needed.
Description
UCSUPPWT is the weight specific to the Unemployment Compensation Supplement and should be used for all analyses using variables from this supplement.
To overcome small sample sizes and produce reliable estimates, Unemployment Compensation Supplement data is intended to be pooled within years (with the exception of 1989 and 1990, for which data from both years should be analyzed together). UCSUPPWT is intended to tally these pooled data, not individual months. For example, May 2018 and September 2018, or February and May 2022, Unemployment Compensation Supplement data should be analyzed and weighted together. See the Unemployment Compensation Supplement notes for more information on using this dataset.
