Description
For persons who attended school beyond high school and who received educational assistance during the previous calendar year, SRCEDUC reports the source(s) of educational assistance: 1) government assistance (such as a Pell Grant), except for VA educational benefits; 2) scholarships and grants; 3) other assistance (from employers, friends, or family not living in the same household); or 4) some combination of assistance from these sources. Various types of post-high school training, including attending a college, university, or business, vocational, or trade school, counted in this context. The educational assistance could cover a variety of costs, including tuition, fees, books, and living expenses while attending school.
Comparability
This variable is comparable over time.
The amount of income received in the form of educational assistance is reported in INCEDUC for 1988 on. As noted above, SRCEDUC does not cover receipt of educational assistance from the Veterans Administration; instead, GOTVEDUC identifies recipients of VA educational benefits for 1988 forward.
In the 2019 ASEC sample, 181 responses do not fit universe criteria, but are in universe.
Universe
