Description
MRKSCOUTLY reports whether the respondent was covered by the subsidized marketplace health insurance policy of someone outside the household during the previous year. Marketplace health insurance plans are obtained through healthcare.gov or through equivalent state-run online marketplaces.
Health insurance exchanges, or online marketplaces where one can purchase private health insurance, were established in all U.S. states by the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (commonly referred to as the ACA). For those without coverage available through an employer, a family member's coverage, or Medicaid or SCHIP, the ACA provides subsidies on a sliding scale for individuals whose Modified Adjusted Gross Income is between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty line. Unsubsidized coverage from someone outside the household last year is reported in MRKUCOUTLY.
