MHMARLSEPM indicates the month in which the respondent separated from their last spouse.
This variable is part of the CPS Fertility Supplement.
Comparability
MHMARLSEPM is limited to ever-married women in all available samples, except for 1980 where ever-married men are included.
In 1980 and 1990, the MHMARLSEPM variable includes women who have been married only once. These women also have values for "month of first separation" (MHMAR1SEPM); for these cases, values for MHMAR1SEPM and MHMARLSEPM are the same. In 1995, women who have been married only once are in-universe only for MHMARLSEPM.
