Description
FSSPDOTHC indicates the total amount the household spent on food last week at places not already mentioned the interviewer. Households who did not shop for food at any additional places are assigned a value of zero.
FSSPDOTHC is a categorical recode of the continuous FSSPDOTH. In 2015, the continuous variable was discontinued from the public release data and a categorical variable was introduced. FSSPDOTHC recodes all previous years to the 2015 coding scheme. FSSPDOTH will no longer be updated for new samples.
This is one of the variables used to calculate total spending on food in the last week. Households also report their usual weekly expenditures on food (FSULXPNS).
This variable is part of the Food Security Supplement.
Comparability
This variable usually is comparable across years, but the universe and top codes change over time.
In most years, the question is asked of all households. In 1997, this question was asked of 6 of the 8 rotation groups. In 2010, food expenditure questions are restricted to non-group quarter households.
Universe
