Description
FSSNTCHLD indicates whether the household has ever sent a child/children to another home because food was running out at any time in the past year.
This question is asked only of households with incomes below 185% percent of poverty or that indicated food access problems. The criteria used to identify food insufficiency varied across survey years, and in 1997, by month-in-sample.
This variable is part of the Food Security Supplement.

- Apr 1995: Households that met the 1995 income or food insufficiency criteria.
- Sep 1996: Households that met the 1996 income or food insufficiency criteria.
- Apr 1997: Households that met the 1997 income or food insufficiency criteria.
