Description
FSPOOR identifies households where the family income of the householder falls above or below 185% of the poverty line.
Households with incomes below 185% over poverty are automatically screened into the Food Sufficiency and Food Security section of the supplement. Households with incomes above 185% of poverty that report no food access problems on preliminary questions are screened out the remainder of the supplement.
Non-respondents to the income question are included in the above 185% of poverty category. Income is reported in categories in FAMINC.
Comparability
This variable is comparable across years, with one exception. Prior to 2009, for 8-person households (NUMPREC=8) FSPOOR=1 at family income levels below $74,999 (FAMINC=100-830). Starting in 2009, for 8-person households (NUMPREC=8) FSPOOR=1 at family income levels below $99,999 (FAMINC=100-841). This change only impacts 8-person households.
