This variable is part of the Food Security Supplement.
This variable is comparable across available years, but the universe changes over time. Between 1995 and 1999, this question is asked only of households with incomes below 185% of poverty. From 2000 forward, higher income households that reported running short of money for food (FSSHORT) are also included in the universe.
