Description
FSCOMCTR indicates whether anyone in the household had eaten a pre-prepared meal at a community or other type of center any time in the last 30 days.
Only households with incomes below 185% of poverty and higher income households that indicate food access problems in response to preliminary screening questions are asked FSCOMCTR and other questions in section on coping strategies to ameliorate or avoid food deprivation. The screening procedures changed in 2002 to match those applied to the food security section.
Comparability
This variable is comparable across years, but the universe changes over time. In 2000 and 2001, households with incomes below 185% of poverty and and higher income households that report running short of food (FSSHORT) are included in the universe for this question. Beginning in 2002, higher income households that report not having enough to eat or enough of the kinds of foods they want to eat (FSFOODS) are also included here.
