Description

CSYRDIV gives the year (4 digits) of the person's most recent divorce or separation. The year this marriage began is found in CSYRMAR.

Users should note that there are a number of cases where the year of marriage (CSYRMAR) is later than the year of divorce, CSYRDIV. These answers are found in the original data and might be a result of respondent error.

Blank values for this variable represent individuals who were not interviewed in April of the sample year.

This variable is part of the Child Support Supplement.

Comparability

In samples from 1979-1986 only female respondents were asked CSYRDIV.

In the 1986 sample there are 2,003 records which have a CSYRDIV value, but are NIU for CSYRMAR. The reason for this discrepancy is unclear.

In the 1992 sample there are 3,444 respondents who are NIU for all Child Support Supplement variables despite meeting known supplement universe requirements.

This variable is otherwise comparable across all available years.
