Description

CSWORK describes the work status of the respondent at the time of his/her last divorce or separation. CSWORK is a combination of employment status and full time or part time hours.

Blank values for this variable represent individuals who were not interviewed in April of the sample year.

This variable is part of the Child Support Supplement.

Comparability

In samples from 1982-1986 only female respondents were eligible for CSWORK.

In the 1984 sample, the original response codes for working or not working are transposed. This has been corrected in CSWORK.

In the 1992 sample there are 3,444 respondents who are NIU for all Child Support Supplement variables despite meeting known supplement universe requirements.

This variable is otherwise comparable across available years.
