CISUPPWT is a 14-digit numeric variable with four implied decimals. That is, 12345678901234 should be interpreted as 1234567890.1234. The IPUMS command files automatically make the necessary adjustment, so no further adjustment is needed.

Description

CISUPPWT is the weight specific to the Computer and Internet Use Supplement, and should be used for all individual-level analyses using variables from this supplement. Users should use CIPWT to tally primary-respondent-only variables in the Computer and Internet Use Supplement. HWTFINL should be used for household-level supplement variables.

Comparability

This variable is comparable across available years.

In 1984, 1989, and 1993, children were not included in the supplement weight. This means persons under 14 years of age in 1984, and under 16 years of age in 1989 and 1993. Codebooks instruct users to use the basic monthly weight for children. CISUPPWT as provided by IPUMS includes the basic monthly weight values for children in these three samples so that all persons are included in CISUPPWT.

CISUPPWT is identical to the basic monthly survey weight from 1997 to 2007.
