Description
MRKSCOVLY reports whether the respondent had any subsidized marketplace health insurance coverage during the previous year. Infants born after the calendar year are not included. Marketplace health insurance plans are obtained through healthcare.gov or through equivalent state-run online marketplaces.
Health insurance exchanges, or online marketplaces where one can purchase private health insurance, were established in all U.S. states by the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (commonly referred to as the ACA). For those without coverage available through an employer, a family member's coverage, or Medicaid or SCHIP, the ACA provides subsidies on a sliding scale for individuals whose Modified Adjusted Gross Income is between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty line. Individuals with unsubsidized marketplace insurance coverage last year are reported in MRKUCOVLY.
