Description
PRVTCOUTNW indicates whether the respondent's current private health insurance coverage is provided by someone living outside the household.
In this variable, "private" includes employment-based, directly purchased, marketplace, non-marketplace, and TRICARE coverage. This definition of private insurance begins with the 2019 ASEC. Prior to 2019, "private" insurance included only employment-based and directly purchased insurance.
