Description
OCC90LY recodes information contained in the variable OCCLY into the 1990 Census Bureau occupational classification system. OCC90LY provides consistent occupational codes for the jobs respondents reported working during the previous calendar year, for 1968 forward. Information on occupation during the previous year is given as it appeared in the original survey data in OCCLY. For both OCCLY and OCC90LY, respondents were to report the jobs they held for the longest time during the previous year.
The occupations of persons employed at the time of the survey is reported in OCC, and this information is recoded into the consistent 1990 occupational classification system in OCC1990. OCC and OCC1990 also provide information about the most recent jobs of persons not employed at the time of the survey.
