Description
CSSUPP indicates whether or not the other parent was supposed to make any child support payment last year. This variable is found on the parent record.
Blank values for this variable represent individuals who were not interviewed in April of the sample year.
This variable is part of the Child Support Supplement.
Comparability
In samples from 1979-1986 only female respondents with children under 20 years old in the household are asked about child support agreements with the father of their children if that person lives outside the household.
In the 1992 sample there are 3,444 respondents who are NIU for all Child Support Supplement variables despite meeting known supplement universe requirements.
In samples from 1992 onward, parents of children in the household are asked about child support agreements with another parent who lives outside the household.
Universe
- 1979-1986: Divorced or never-married females aged 18 or older who have children with a father outside the household and a child support agreement
- 1994-2020: Persons with any kind of child support agreement.
