Description
PHIOWN indicates whether a respondent covered by a private (i.e., employment-based or privately-purchased, not governmental) insurance plan during the previous calendar year held such a plan in his or her own name (i.e., was the policyholder for such a plan).
Comparability — General

This variable is comparable over time.
All persons--not simply the policyholders--who reported they were covered by a private insurance plan during the previous calendar year are identified in PHINSUR. Private insurance policyholders who attained their coverage through a current or former employer or union are identified in INCLUGH.
