Description
LINENO indicates the numbered line on which the CPS interviewer recorded a household member's name, on a form called the "control card," when the interviewer drew up the roster of all household members. Normally the head of the household was listed on the first line, followed by the spouse, their children, members of subfamilies (in the same order), and unrelated persons.

LINENO is useful for researchers analyzing the following variables related to health insurance: PRIVWHO1, PRIVWHO2, GRPWHO1, and GRPWHO2. PRIVWHO1 and PRIVWHO2 indicate the line numbers of the first and second members of the household who were the policyholders for privately-purchased (i.e., not employment-based) insurance covering the respondent during the previous calendar year. GRPWHO1 and GRPWHO2 indicate the line numbers of the first and second members of the household who were the policyholders for employment-based insurance covering the respondent during the previous calendar year.
